Currently mobile data usage is high due to Android based
apps are frequently using online based platform for their updates or social
media requires to frequent visit to internet. Therefore there is a requirement
to save data during these visits and save some extra bucks along the way.
Limit to Data Usage
Through Android settings you can set limit for data usage.
Go to settings, Data usage, Billing cycle, Data limit and billing cycle, from
there you will be able to set a limit to maximum data limit. So there will be a
popping up message when you reach the data limit.
App Background data usage
Usage of background data is also a problem. While you using
an app, another app may be able access internet for any purpose. You can stop this by go to settings, data usage and see what apps are using background data and
if an app using too much of data you can restrict it by tapping restrict back
ground data usage.
Use data Compression mode in Chrome
When you browsing you can reduce the data usage by going to
settings menu in Chrome and tap on to Data saver mode. Then you can save data
without significant slowdown on surfing. You can revisit settings and look how
much data you have saved during a period of time.
Limit the use of streaming services
Listen to music and videos through streaming services will
increase the use of data. If you can limit usage of these media, it will
significantly reduce the data usage. In addition to this most of the data
streaming sites offer data saving modes, you can use them as well. (eg: Utube and Netflix).
Cache Google Maps for offline use
There is an option to download the maps to your phone which
enables that you can use maps even when you are offline and GPS will do the
rest. Go to settings, offline maps, and select your own map.
Account Sync settings
Some of the apps by default use Auto Sync mode.
By disabling these apps you can reduce usage of data. For example apps such as
Facebook and other social media apps are on Auto sync modes. Go to Settings,
Accounts and disable Auto Sync mode.
Time to Time check for Malware
There may be malware installed on your phone. They also use
bandwidth to transfer your information to a hacker. Therefore use anti-virus
software to deal with such malicious activities. It may save lots of data for
you.
In addition to above you can go through the following steps
to further reduce the data usage,
Turn off the mobile data when you are not using it
Turn off the notifications for
apps which you do not require
For widgets, set longer time
periods to update.
Keep your system cache as it is.
